| Smokey and the Bandit Burt Reynolds is the Bandit, a legendary outlaw who doesn't really do anything REALLY bad. Big and Little Enos Burdet, taking advantage of Bandit's huge ego, bet money that Bandit can't drive from Atlanta to Texarkana, Texas, pick up a truckload of Coors beer, and drive back in 28 hours. Bandit takes them up on the bet, however insisting that they provide him with a "speedy" car. After some grumbling, they oblige, and they provide him with a slick black Trans Am. Bandit then grabs his former partner "Snowman", a laid-back truck driver, and off they go, truck and all, to Texarkana. They stay in contact with each other using the CB radio. No problems getting to Texarkana, and getting the truckload of beer. Driving back, Bandit encounters a runaway bride-to-be, Carrie (frog). He picks her up, and continues on his way back. Trouble is, the groom left at the altar is none other than the Sheriff's son. Enter Sheriff Buford T. Justice, a down-home, good ol' boy redneck from Texas, played masterfully by Jackie Gleason. Upon finding out that Carrie is riding shotgun with the Bandit, he proceeds to pursue him across state lines, through different jurisdictions, stopping at nothing to catch the Bandit. |

| Smokey and the Bandit II Burt Reynolds and Co. are back in action again escorting an elephant from Miami to Dallas. Part one starts with the Bandit and gang being hired for the job, but not knowing what the cargo is to be. When they arrive at the depot they find a very large crate containing a very big elephant. Later during the journey when the elephant (Charlotte) becomes sick, they discover that she is pregnant, in the meantime, they have picked up their old adversary Sheriff Buford T Justice (Gleason) and his idiot son, and part one concludes with these two demolishing a roller-coaster ride with their car. In part two the bandit has trouble with his pals when the elephant is too sick to be moved, bandit insists that they continue and his girl walks out on him, disgusted with his lack of concern for Charlotte. When the bandit continues with the trip he finds he has run slap into a trap set by Buford T. Justice and fifty police cars! The bandit is rescued however by a gang of truckers (about fifty again) who smash the police cars with their huge waggons. The elephant has it baby, the bandit relents and changes his mind about going on, and his girl comes back to him again. Spectacular stunts and very entertaining. |

Although the great acting and drop dead comedy could distract you, the cars were the major players in the movies' success. |
